Mental Health Event Strives to Break Stigma

Family Health Center focuses on the health of the whole person–physical and emotional. That’s why we’re a proud partner in Breaking The Stigma, the African American Mental Health Symposium. This event takes place on Thursday, May 2, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 120 Roberson St., Kalamazoo.
This one-day event is aimed at shifting the dialogue of African American Mental health on the 400th year anniversary since slavery. It will address the real issues of African American mental health, the generational impact of trauma, the role of the church, developing culturally sustaining practices, professional obligations and more. It will provide tools to navigate systems and strategies for effective treatment options.
